                             RESOLUTION NO.   20972 
                 
                 
                  A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE 1995 ARBORICULTURAL
                  SPECIFICATIONS MANUAL AND CERTAIN GUIDELINES
                  ASSOCIATED THEREWITH.

       	    	 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
       CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That there be and is hereby adopted the
       following manual and guidelines:
      
       	    Arboricultural Specifications Manual - 1995.  City of
       Chattanooga with the addition of the following thereto:
                
                 The permit holder shall make every reasonable attempt
                 to preserve and maintain the life and good health of
                 the city's trees.  If the tree(s) must be removed or,
                 in the opinion of the Municipal Forester, if the
                 tree(s) is irreparably damaged or killed as a direct
                 result of construction, or trenching operations, etc.
                 the following replacement plan shall take effect:
                
                 Replacement planting shall consist of an equal
                 replacement of caliper lost on-site.  (For example,
                 on a specific site, a twenty-one inch oak tree must
                 be removed because of site considerations.  Total
                 caliper loss equals twenty-one inches and must be
                 replaced by planting seven three-inch trees or nine
                 two-inch caliper trees and one three-inch tree).  No
                 tree for mitigation purposes shall be less than two
                 inches in caliper and shall be of no less quality
                 species than the tree removed.  Should on-site
                 replacement not be possible, the replacements shall
                 take place through the following method:
           
            	 1.   Replacement of equal lost caliper on an
                      adjacent site;

            	 2.   Replacement of equal lost caliper on the
                      nearest suitable public land;
           
            	 3.   Payment of value of lost caliper to the
                      City's tree planting fund.  This amount will
                      be based on the loss of caliper inches. 
                      Each year during its annual organizational
                      meeting the Chattanooga Tree Advisory
                      Commission shall set this figure based on
                      fair and reasonable replacement cost
                      figures.

       	    	 Arboriculture.
